Three objectives underpin our research programme
- Improved Donation and Donor Care | It is imperative to gain a deeper understanding into the factors impacting our donors and insight will provide an evidence base from which to develop and improve blood collection policies, testing algorithms and clinical guidelines.
- Progressive Blood Service | We must future-proof our blood service in relation to changing technologies, blood demands, blood component and advanced therapy usage.
- Clinical Leadership | Research leadership requires participation in national and international networks, and collaboration with clinical colleagues, international blood services and commercial partners, for research endeavours and clinical trials.
Our chosen research themes prioritise areas for further research
- Disease epidemiology & genetic susceptibility | Our ambition is to capture and monitor donor infectious disease and genetic epidemiology.
- Donation & deferral policy | Our ambitions are to
- Gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the donation through behavioural scientific and sociological research
- Improve donor welfare
- Analyse the effects on donation following changes in policies
- Applied diagnostics & technical advancement | Our ambitions are to:
- Ensure we are at the forefront of technological advancements
- Harness the scientific capabilities within the laboratory
- Drive peer-review publication of laboratory developments
- Clinical evaluation of blood transfusion & transplantation | Our ambitions are to:
- Collaborate on clinical trials evaluating blood components and tissue
- Continue of blood component and tissue administration
- Drive peer-review publication of audit, clinical case studies and haemovigilance
