MIGRAINE

MIGRAINE-DSG-IBTS

ACCEPT:

  • If the donor suffers from migraines, even if they require regular prophylaxis with medication such as Sanomigran or beta-blockers

DEFER:

  • If the donor is unwell on the day of donation
  • If the donor suffers from regular or severe headaches that have not been investigated until results available
  • If the donor suffered migraine associated with donating blood
  • If the donor is taking Topiramate or Valproate/Valproic acid as prophylaxis for migraine during treatment and for 1 week after the last dose even if well on the day

 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Migraine is caused by a disturbance in the normal blood flow to parts of the brain. It can be extremely disabling in its severest form. By deferring donors with severe form of migraine, it is hoped to prevent precipitating an attack by donating blood
