HEPATITIS – RISK ACTIVITY

ACCEPT:

  • After Electrolysis
  • A donor who has been in contact with a person who carries the hepatitis B or C virus, other than sexual or household contact, as long as the donor has not suffered an inoculation injury

DEFER:

  • For 4 months after acupuncture or dry needling, if not performed by: a Medical Practitioner registered with the Irish Medical Council, or a Registered General Nurse registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) working for a Medical Practitioner registered with the Irish Medical Council or a Chartered Physiotherapist registered with the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists
  • For 4 months after Ear/Body piercing
  • For 4 months after Endoscopy using flexible instruments
  • For 4 months after Tattooing
  • For 4 months after Micro-needling
  • For 4 months after Colonic hydrotherapy/irrigation
  • For 4 months after an inoculation injury or contamination of non-intact skin or mucosae with blood or body fluid (if Hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) was not required). Follow-up must also be completed before the donor is accepted
  • For 4 months after a donor’s last sexual or household contact with a person who is Hepatitis B antigen positive or Hepatitis C RNA positive
  • For 4 months after a donor’s last sexual or household contact with a person who completely recovered from hepatitis B AND required medication to do so
  • For 4 months after a donor’s last sexual or household contact with a person who cleared the hepatitis C virus AND required anti-viral medication to do so
  • For 4 months after a donor’s current sexual partner or household contact made a complete recovery from hepatitis B if it has been confirmed (following referral to a Specialist Medical Officer) that medication was not required to do so
  • For 4 months after a donor’s current sexual partner or household contact completely cleared the hepatitis C virus if it has been confirmed (following referral to a Specialist Medical Officer) that medication was not required to do so. 3028 (120) Hep B &C after last contact
  • For 12 months after an inoculation injury or contamination of non-intact skin or mucosae with blood or body fluid if HBIG was given. Follow-up must also be completed before the donor is accepted. 3038 (365) blood product Exc Coag, consequence for previous donations (NO)

 PERMANENTLY EXCLUDE:

  • Donors whose sexual partners are Hepatitis B antigen positive or Hepatitis C RNA positive, if the donor is in an on-going sexual relationship
  • Donors whose permanent household contacts are Hepatitis B antigen positive or Hepatitis C RNA positive
  • Donors whose sexual partners or household contacts completely recovered from hepatitis B AND required anti-viral medication to do so, if the contact is on-going
  • Donors whose sexual partners or household contacts cleared the hepatitis C virus AND required anti-viral medication to do so, if the contact is on-going
