Non-viral causes of hepatitis include:
- Toxic hepatitis e.g. due to chemicals, medication (prescription and over the counter), nutritional supplements, foods such as poisonous mushrooms
- Alcoholic hepatitis
- Auto-immune hepatitis
- Metabolic hepatitis e.g. due to excess iron (haemochromatosis), fat (steatosis) or copper
- (Wilson’s Disease)
- Bacterial hepatitis e.g. typhoid fever, Weil’s disease
- Parasitic hepatitis e.g. due to hepatic amoebiasis
