ACCEPT:

  • Donors who have had hepatitis before their 13th birthday, even if a definitive diagnosis was not made

 PERMANTENTLY EXCLUDE:

  • Donors who had hepatitis on or after their 13th birthday, where a definitive diagnosis was not made

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Non-viral causes of hepatitis include:

  • Toxic hepatitis e.g. due to chemicals, medication (prescription and over the counter), nutritional supplements, foods such as poisonous mushrooms
  • Alcoholic hepatitis
  • Auto-immune hepatitis
  • Metabolic hepatitis e.g. due to excess iron (haemochromatosis), fat (steatosis) or copper
  • (Wilson’s Disease)
  • Bacterial hepatitis e.g. typhoid fever, Weil’s disease
  • Parasitic hepatitis e.g. due to hepatic amoebiasis
