- If not visibly icteric (jaundiced)
DEFER:
- If donor is jaundiced due to Gilbert’s disease
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Gilbert's syndrome is an inherited defect in bilirubin metabolism. It is harmless but can cause jaundice (yellowing of the whites of the eyes). Jaundiced donors must be deferred to ensure recipient safety
