ACCEPT:

  • If donor feels well and does not have a fever, productive cough, headache, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, fatigue, blocked sinuses or diarrhoea and is not sneezing
  • Accept if the donor has a dry cough but is otherwise well

DEFER:

If the donor:

  • Has a fever
  • Feels unwell
  • Has a headache
  • Has a runny nose
  • Has a sore throat
  • Has a productive cough
  • Has muscle pain
  • Has diarrhea
  • Has fatigue
  • Has blocked sinuses
  • Is sneezing

NB: there is no need to defer donors who have been in contact with individuals with a common cold (even if thry have been in close household contact), as long as the donor is well and asymptomatic at the time of donation. Ensure that these donors are given the standard post-donation advice as regards reporting post-donation illness to the IBTS
