Raised PSA levels are not a reason for deferral if being monitored by a GP (even if the donor is prescribed medication to relieve symptoms). If the GP is concerned about the PSA levels, the donor will have been referred to a specialist

ACCEPT:

• If not requiring treatment or if only taking alpha blockers to relieve symptoms

DEFER:

• If currently taking anti-androgens such as Dutasteride (Avodart or Combodart) or Proscar
• If Dutasteride (Avodart or Combodart) has been taken in the last 6 months
• If waiting to attend or attending a specialist or consultant
