ASPIRIN

NOTES:

  • If medication containing aspirin has been taken in the last 5 days, the donated unit must not be used for platelet concentrate production. For example, Bonjela contains choline salicylate and so the same guidance will apply as for aspirin. This is due to the fact that it is not known how much of the active ingredient is absorbed topically
  • If a donor has taken medication containing aspirin in the last 5 days, the donation will not be suitable for neonatal use.

ACTION:

  • Assess underlying cause and see relevant entry
  • See list of medications affecting platelet function.
