Transition Year Programme

IBTS Transition Year Application

Description of programme:

The IBTS is the national organisation with sole responsibility for the collection, processing, testing and distribution of blood and blood products in Ireland. Our Transition Year Programme has been tailored especially to learning needs of Transition Year students. Students will enjoy a week of work experience within the IBTS learning the basics of blood grouping and the vein to vein chain from blood donation to transfusion. Throughout the week, students will discover what it’s like to work in the IBTS and spend time with experts across the organisation such as Medical Scientists, Medical Doctors, Nurses, Finance and HR to name a few. A detailed
programme will be provided to successful applicants closer to the dates.

Overall we aim to encourage students to become advocates for blood donation, fostering a sense of altruism, compassion, and inspire them to work in the exciting fields of blood and cellular therapies.
