RHEUMATIC FEVER

NOTES

An individual with a history of rheumatic fever should be deferred for two years thereafter and then assessed for chronic heart sequelae. The latter complication is a cause for permanent exclusion

 DEFER:

  •  For two years after an isolated attack

PERMANENTLY EXCLUDE:

  • If more than one attack
  • If has chronic heart sequelae
  • If advised to take prophylactic antibiotics prior to dental treatment
