• If donor has PIP implants and has no adverse side-effects

DEFER:

• Until fully recovered if the implants are leaking and the donor is awaiting removal

PERMANENTLY EXCLUDE:

• If the implants were inserted following breast cancer

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

PIP implants are silicone breast implants containing unapproved silicone gel. They were manufactured in France by a company called Poly Implant Prostheses. They were withdrawn from use in 2010 after it was found that they had been manufactured with unapproved silicone gel and were more prone to rupturing than other implants. Research hasn't found any evidence to suggest that PIP implants pose a serious health risk, but they can cause unpleasant symptoms if they rupture. Symptoms of rupture include lumpiness or swelling around the breast, change in breast shape, redness, pain, burning sensation
