PHLEBITIS

ACCEPT:

  • If it was an isolated episode with a specific cause (that is not a reason for deferral)
  • 14 days after full recovery and off all anticoagulant therapy for at least 7 days AND if site is healed

DEFER:

  • If the donor is still on treatment or site is not healed or donor is still under follow-up

PERMANENTLY EXCLUDE:

  • Repeated attack

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Phlebitis is inflammation of a vein. It can have many causes, some of which are not a major concern. Recurrent episodes may indicate a more serious underlying condition. It is unsafe for a donor with phlebitis to have a venepuncture performed
