NOTES

People with PA are now considered to be eligible to donate, provided that they have been successfully treated and that the regular injections are for prevention of low vitamin B12 levels and prevention of anemia (rather than for treatment)

 ACCEPT:

• If the donor has been successfully treated for decreased vitamin B12 levels, and is not anemic, and requires further treatment to maintain normal vitamin B12 levels and prevent anemia

DEFER:

• If the donor is under investigation for anemia
• If the donor is anemic
• If the donor is receiving treatment with vitamin B12 injections to treat low vitamin B12 levels or to treat anemia
