  • If donor is on maintenance therapy (e.g. LOSEC) and meets the criteria below

DEFER:

  • If donor has current or recent symptoms
  • If donor is on active treatment other than maintenance therapy

PERMANENTLY EXCLUDE:

  • If associated with malignancy

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Bleeding is a common complication of peptic ulcers. It can be profuse and may even require transfusion. It may also be gradual and lead to iron deficiency. Accepting donors who are at risk of bleeding will impact on their safety by reducing their ability to compensate for blood loss and may lead to treatment that would not otherwise have been needed
