ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Use of PEP may interfere with testing for HIV by delaying seroconversion or giving unclear results in a positive donor. Post-exposure prophylaxis - is prescribed in Ireland by a doctor using evidence based international and national guidelines.  A risk benefit analysis is undertaken on every individual following an exposure. PEP is prescribed only to those considered at significant risk of acquiring HIV as per the guidelines. Confirm by questioning that such donors have fully understood the HIV exclusion criteria
