MEDICAL INVESTIGATIONS

NOTES

Individuals who attend a session and give information that they are currently undergoing medical investigation or have been referred for a specialist opinion should be advised not to donate blood until investigations are complete and a diagnosis is established, even if perfectly asymptomatic on the day. However, individuals who have an established diagnosis (e.g. requires a hip or knee replacement for osteoarthritis) and who have been referred for a specialist opinion or are on a hospital waiting list may be accepted if the condition concerned would not of itself be a contraindication to donation, i.e. they may be eligible to donate. The rationale for any clinical decision such as this must be fully documented
