LONG HAUL FLIGHTS

LONG HAUL FLIGHTS

DEFER:

  • For 48 hours before and after a long haul flight (i.e a flight that will last at least 5 hours)
  • For 2 weeks prior to the travel  if the donor is likely to be exercising in conditions where the amount of oxygen available is low (e. g. at high altitude)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Travelling, particularly by plane, can be dehydrating and this may increase the risk of developing a thrombosis. If the donor is dehydrated, they should be advised to delay donating until they are well hydrated to avoid an increased risk of fainting
