NOTES

Check if there is a specific entry for the infectious disease. If so, follow the specific guideline

NB: There is no need to defer donors who have been in contact with individuals with a common cold (even if they have been in close household contact), as long as the donor is well and asymptomatic at the time of donation. Ensure that these donors are given the standard post-donation advice as regards reporting post-donation illness to the IBTS

 DEFER:

  • If the person has an active infection/is infected
  • For two weeks (14 days) from full recovery with the exception of colds/cold sores. Refer to specific entry for Colds and Cold Sores
  • For at least one week (7 days) from completion of systemic antibiotics, antiviral or anti-fungal treatment
