ACTION:

• Question any donor who states that they are donating to get a test for hepatitis about their risk/s
• Defer or permanently exclude the donor as appropriate and advise the donor to attend their GP or a Sexual Health Clinic for testing

All donors are provided with information about keeping blood transfusions safe so that those at risk refrain from donating (Blood Safety Information). All potential donors must read and understand this information on donor self-exclusion. If a donor advises staff that he requires/requests a test for hepatitis or HIV, this in itself is not a reason for permanent exclusion from donating. However, if it becomes apparent that the donor was withholding information so as to be tested, this is a reason for permanent exclusion
