DUODENAL-ULCER

Duodenal Ulcer

ACCEPT:

  • If donor displays no evidence of active disease
  • Donor has partial gastrectomy provided there is no active disease 
  • Provided there is no evidence of active disease
  • If the donor is on maintenance treatment if asymptomatic

DEFER:

  • If the donor has recent symptoms

PERMANENTLY EXCLUDE:

  • If the donor has undergone total gastrectomy

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Bleeding is a common problem associated with peptic ulcers. This can be profuse and may require transfusion, or gradual, leading to iron deficiency. Taking blood from a person at risk of bleeding will reduce their ability to compensate for blood loss and may lead to treatment that would not otherwise have been needed
