COMMUNICATION DIFFICULTIES

COMMUNICATION DIFFICULTIES

  • An IBTS staff member may assist a donor to read and complete the HLQ and to understand all the relevant information. To facilitate comprehension it is permissible to use alternative formats e.g. audio or for the staff member to read all the relevant information to the donor. If this is done, it must be noted on the HLQ
  • The donor must be able to clearly demonstrate that they have clearly understood the HLQ and the other relevant information. At present there is no standard way of assessing comprehension so this will be a personal judgement made by the staff member
  • Other than in the context of sign language interpreters (see deaf donors) third party interpreters are not allowed to be present at any part of the selection process where there is an exchange of confidential information between the donor and the IBTS staff member

PERMANENTLY EXCLUDE:

  • If  the donor is unable to understand the HLQ
