CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE

CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE

NOTES

Individuals with circulatory disorders are especially subject to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disturbance resulting from sudden haemodynamic alterations for which they are unable to provide rapid compensation. Donors with a valve lesion who have been told to take antibiotics whenever dental treatment is carried out may be liable to Subacute Bacterial Endocarditis (SBE) as a result of infection of the venepuncture site. Isolated DVT (excluding axillary vein thrombosis) and pulmonary embolus with specific cause, is not in itself an exclusion, provided there has been a complete recovery and the donor is off all anticoagulant therapy for a minimum of 7 days

ACCEPT:

  • Donors with asymptomatic mitral valve prolapse
  • A donor who had a murmur as a child once no residual effects and not under the care of a cardiologist as an adult

DEFER:

  • Donor suffering from angina, repeated thrombophlebitis, thrombosis, valvular lesion, or susceptible to SBE

 PERMANENTLY EXCLUDE:

  • Donors who have cardiomyopathy
  • Donors who have Right or Left Bundle Branch Block (RBBB or LBBB)
  • Donors who have had one or more stents
  • Donors who have a pacemaker inserted
  • Donors who have a defibrillator inserted
