ACCEPT:

  • Evenif used for lung scans between 1st June and 31st Dec 1997

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Amerscan Pulmonate II is administered during x-ray lung scans. It is an imaging agent, administered by injection and enables doctors to produce an image of the lung structure to detect lung disorders.Amerscan Pulmonate II contains a very small amount of a protein albumin isolated from blood plasma (some of which was sourced in the UK), leading to concerns in 1997 that there was a possibility of CJD transmission because Britain's National Blood Service discovered that some plasma used in the product came from a donor who died of a formerly undetected strain of CJD

Three batches were withdrawn in Ireland by the British manufacturers, Nycomed Amersham, who stated there was no evidence of contamination
