ALLERGY

ALLERGY - DSG - IBTS

ACCEPT:

  • If donor had a local or minor allergy and is not affected on the day of donation (even if they took anti-histamines)
  • If donor has an allergy to nickel

DEFER:

  • If the donor has severe symptoms due to an allergy or a medication they are taking
  • For 1 year (after last response) if donor had an allergy (that wasn’t anaphylactic) to a prescribed drug
  • If donor had an allergy to CHLOROPREP, defer the donor, complete a DVI (Major) and put the donor’s HLQ for the attention of MO with the donor’s consent to contact their GP
  • For 7 days from last date the donor took oral or injected steroids

PERMANENTLY EXCLUDE:

  • If donor has documented history of anaphylaxis to any food, product or medicine
  • If donor carries an Epipen or Anapen (adrenaline/epinephrine)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

A potential donor with anything other than minor symptoms related to an allergy or to its treatment, on the day of donation should not be accepted. Systemic reactions are not seen with nickel allergy. Allergic reactions to peanuts have occurred in recipients due to the transfer of antibodies in the donor’s plasma to the recipient, and the exposure of the recipient to peanuts
